The number of dogs (and cats) waiting in area shelters for forever homes is staggering. So too are the number of rescue groups in the greater Phoenix Area who save these animals from euthanasia, care for them, and try to place them with loving families. The groups highlighted below are all registered 501 c-3 organizations located in the East Valley. While each shelter is different, usually the animal has been spayed or neutered, microchipped and given a health exam by a vet. Sometimes a bag of food is provided along with a collar and leash. Some groups offer certificates for training classes. The fee charged for adopting may vary but remember the money should not be considered as a profit for “dog selling” but rather for the upkeep and maintenance of the animals and the facilities which often only rely on adoption fees and donations from supporters.
